Timing Issues
i have a 1955 Farmall cub with a woods belly mower. One day i was mowing with it and it started running funny and then stopped running all together. since then i have rebuilt the magneto, starter, and carb. i have finally got it kind of running but now when i am mowing with it and say go up a steep hill it will bog down and die off. i did the static timing on it but when i put a timing light on it it reads very off i have to push the magneto all the way back to the engine and still the needle and mark are an inch off each other. should i only do the static, is there some thing else wronge. any info would help please and thanks.

Re: Timing Issues
The rotor and pinion internal to the magneto must be timed to one another. There is a cast line on the rotor, and a triangle or dot on the pinion. Make sure those line up. Then, confirm that the governor drive lugs that turn the magneto are at approximately 2 and 8 o'clock when the engine is at TDC on number 1 cylinder. If either of those is off, you will never get a magneto in time. Lastly, I don't use or believe a timing light on a mag-equipped cub, just static time it and use it.
