leaky carburator
On my 53 the carb seems to get wet with fuel when the gas supply is turned on and left, say for 5/10 minutes without the tractor running....Doesn't leak while its running...Even drips out the outlet to the breather if you take it off....I'm thinking a sticking float maybe but then I wonder if its due to being nearly full of fuel with the sediment bowl tuned on all the way....(Both of which are a rarity....I usually just turn the gas on a few turns, not wide open and the old girl doesn't normally get filled so much, as she like to slobber out the gas cap a bit.).....So thats the problem....Another related question....You have an economy, basic and complete carb rebuild kit....TSC's kits are junk...So which kit is the norm....Do you need the complete for a "normal rebuild "...The prices range from 20/50 dollars, as you know, so which one is most prevalently used... Re: leaky carburator
Your needle is not seating or your float is out of adjustment and letting too much gas in or it is sticking. Just a little trash or flake of varnish from old gas can be the culprit. Don't bang on the side of the carb because they are pretty delicate and will bend easily on the side. Usually the carburetor does not need a kit, just a good cleaning and adjustment. You need a good fuel flow to your carb, that way you know nothing is blocking your fuel line and does not starve you tractor under a load. However, most folks do turn their gas off when they are not using them.

Re: leaky carburator
Randall has it for you . I might add that if it all seems in adjustment and the float or needle is not sticking , you may look for a leaking float that sinks when filling with fuel. Or it could be back to the discharge jet leaking at the threads as discussed in an earlier thread .

Re: leaky carburator
May not need a carburetor kit or any parts, just a good cleaning and adjustment. My suggestion is not to purchase a carburetor kit until the carburetor has been cleaned and inspected.pickerandsinger wrote:You have an economy, basic and complete carb rebuild kit. I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: leaky carburator
Thanks, I always shut the gas off when I remember it .....It seems to have stopped leaking however by just turning the gas on about 4/5 turns instead of all the way....I was talking about 5 or so minutes shutting it off for a P stop or something .....I'll keep track of it and if it continues to be a problem I'll check it out as you've suggested....I guess I'll wing the kit as needed.... Dave:
Those petcocks have to be either fully open or fully closed. In between isn't good and tends to end up causing the packing to leak. You need to take the Fuel Sediment bowl off and either repack that petcock/shutoff valve or move over to a ball valve. I have a ball valve on mine (due to peripheral neuropathy) and I have zero leaks. I also have a carb that has been completely redone.

....Will do, I gave it a brief look see...Right now I've got a Murphy's Law thing going on....I hear you on that neuropathy....Mines in my legs due to some squashed discs....Tried lyrica but side effects weren't worth it...Muscle cramps are my nemesis....Try to eat greens high in Magnesium (couple times a day)....It does help....
