Re: kiwi cub
Welcome to the board! By Kiwi Cub, do you mean from New Zealand? We have a few other members from down there here on the board.
Does pulling the choke out seem to help, or at least delay the tractor shutting off? Might try cleaning out the main jet.
Immediately after the tractor dies, does it still have a good spark? Might be the coil or condenser breaking down.

Welcome to the forum from Arkansas.
Plenty of fuel?
Dribble or good fuel flow.
There is only one or two reasons on a gravity system to not have good fuel flow, of 1/2 a line full or better. Hold a container under the carb and pull the main jet, turn on fuel and see if it shuts down to a dribble in a short time.

Welcome to the forum.
And thank you for teaching me a new word. I had to look it up.
A hobby farm (also called a lifestyle block in New Zealand) is a smallholding or small farm that is maintained without expectation of being a primary source of income.

Otakiri:
G'day to you and congrats on acquiring your 1st new to you Cub.
Sounds like fuel starvation issues to me. Since you have just acquired it, I would be checking the entire fuel system .. check for dirt in the tank, check and clean the fuel sediment bowl, check and clean the screen at the carb inlet, check the main metering jet - ensuring both the horizontal and the tiny longitudinal orifice are clean and clear of blockages. Use a piece of soft copper wire such as twisted pair/telephone cable to clean the small orifice. Do not use tip cleaners.
