I don't often see folks growing Kohlrabit - it is an acquired taste but one I grew up with. Sauted with shallots or scallions, mushrooms and some vegetable stock .. dinner is served Well part of it anyways. Goes real good with Pork Hock and Spaetzle mmmmmmmmmm tasty

Picked young ( about 3 inches around or so, its a great mild radish tasting snack....Sliced with a little salt....Minus the heartburn ( and as you know Rudi, I got only part of my Pancreas)...DaveRudi wrote:I don't often see folks growing Kohlrabit - it is an acquired taste but one I grew up with. Re: Garden cooperating
We've been hard at it here in Indiana.
All from our farm:
60+ # strawberries
5 gal bucket of garlic
100+ dozen ears of sweet corn
92# of carrots
70 canned quarts of green beans (and several folks who came and picked and took home)
A couple hundred onions
300+# of red and white potatoes
20+ quarts of peas
15# rhubarb
Rasberries and black berries (unknown amount, they get ate before weighing)
Peppers and tomatoes coming on strong now. She's made quite a few jars of ketchup, tomato sauce, juice, and soon salsa.
We've been busy!

Re: Garden cooperating
Nice crops Grasser....We've got similar gardens, only mine must be about 1/2 size or a little better of yours....I do have an abundance of tomato plants as I thought the first 30 I planted weren't going to make it cause of a heat wave after transplanting and planted 30 more....Then the first 30 kicked in so now I got 60 plants coming on....At least their different....30 Glamour, 12 BeefSteak, 12 Brandy Wine, 6 Amish Paste...There and almost as high as the Corn....And wife... This was taken a couple of weeks ago....

Re: Garden cooperating
My tomatoes are slow coming, this year. Rest of the garden is doing well. Got rid of the deer, by plowing up the red clover cover crop, on one side of the garden. They grazed there, then snacked on the garden, for dessert!. Planted Sorghum Sudan grass, in place of the clover. Will produce lots of organic matter, limited nitrogen, but limited Deer interest, which is worth more to me, than the nitrogen. Ed

Re: Garden cooperating
Yeh, I was talking to a lady the other day at a local farm stand....She asked if I had any ripe tomatoes....I said a few...She said normally local guys would supply her with tomatoes, but everyone is saying their slow to ripen this year...
Oh yeah, I been going to order a few fall plantings (bush cherries)...I read in a review that someone used " 1/2" Bar of Irish Spring soap hung on a stick to ward off Deer from eating their cherries and limbs....Last for a couple of years and worked great...ScottyD'sdad wrote:My tomatoes are slow coming, this year.
.Now I expect that should get some Hee Haws from some off the boys....Reminder...Do not shoot the messenger.... DaveScottyD'sdad wrote:Got rid of the deer, by plowing up the red clover cover crop
