Cub Hydraulic Pump Removal
I have hydraulic oil leaking from my pump into the engine and bought the rebuild kit off of a company referred to here. Now, in removing the pump, does the oil line set need to be unbolted off the pump and the control/lift unit and moved out of the way to take the pump off the tractor? Or is there enough flex in the lines to unbolt them off the back of the pump and flex them out of the way and get enough clearance to slide the pump back after unbolting it? And which bolts go through the pump to hold it on the block and which set just hold the pump together? This tractor is a working tractor, not a show piece. And I need to get it back to mowing.

The upper left and lower right bolts remove the pump from the tractor. I advise removing the lines before removing the pump. The pump has got to move back about 2 maybe 2 1/2 inches to get it out.

I would unbolt both ends of the manifold tubes. Safer that way. A quick look at the pump gasket, properly oriented, will tell you which bolts go into the block.

Re: Cub Hydraulic Pump Removal
Ok, thanks for the help. If my pump rebuild goes ok and I get it all bolted back up to the tractor, how do I prime the pump before starting it? Is there a way to force hydraulic fluid (hytran) out of the reservoir through the pump? I was planning to fill the pump with hytran when sitting on the bench and getting the seals and gaskets lubed up and then put it on the tractor, wipe up the spilled out oil and then hook the lines back to it with the o-rings in place. But is there a way to fill the lines back up?

You need to install the pump and the tubes before topping off the system. Once this is complete, top off with hy-tran, start the tractor and work the lift up and down a few times. this will bleed the air from the system. Top it off again and you're through. I put a kit in mine a few months back and the leak stopped. Good Luck.

I would make that a few dozen times.

I slightly loosened the bolts at the pipe manifold at the pump to allow the oil to drain down to the pump and then I retightening the bolts.

Ok, this is the stuff I need to know. I appreciate all the help everybody has given me on this hydraulic pump job. And my wife will sure appreciate it when she gets her tractor back to mow grass again. I told her when I found all the hytran had leaked into the engine that she would have to use the 21" push mower to finish cutting the last 6 acres of grass down along the driveway. She didn't like that idea at all. Then I told her she could let the grass grow a little more and hook up the disk mower to the Farmall M and then bail it. That was even a worse idea. And I wasn't going to suggest she get out the Farmall Super C and mount the sickle mower to the fast hitch and go to it.
