Why I Love Garage Sales

Postby ricky racer » Sat Aug 31, 2013 5:53 pm

I just had to share my latest garage sale finds that I picked up last weekend. I stopped at a garage sale and was looking through the collection of stuff when I came upon a pressure washer and chipper / shredder / lawn vac. Both had $20 marked on them. I quizzed the woman there about the price thinking it was priced wrong and she said, "price is correct. My husband said to get rid of them". I gave them a good once over and figured for 20 bucks, I had to get the washer. I paid her the $20 and went home to get my trailer. I came back and loaded the washer and went to look at the chipper one last time before leaving. The woman said I should get it out of there too but I told her I didn't really need it or have extra room for it. She said you can have it for $10. So after I loaded it up, I headed down the road with a big smile on my face. :)

Neither fired up when I got home. With a shot of starting fluid each fired up and ran but would not run without the fluid. It was obvious the fuel delivery was the problem on both. Today I pulled the carb off of the washer and did a through cleaning and it started an ran like a top.

Did the same thing with the chipper but it will only run with the choke on. Evidently I missed something. I'll have to go through it again and find where the blockage is. Neither of these units appear to have been used much.

I can never find yard sales like that. Great find you have there.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Way to go. I don't need either one, but at that price would have grabbed them. I have never seen anything but clothes and baby toys at yard sales around here.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

If the chipper continues to give problems buy a new carb. They are not that expensive.

Rick:

If the chipper continues to give you problems, I will give you $10.00 for it :-:-):  You got a nice deal on that shredder. Didn't do too bad on the power washer either.

Congrats :applause: Nice snag :D Cecil is right, those carbs aren't very expensive.

And like the others, wish I could find one cheap .... :help: :worthy:

Same here, John.

You can't just hit 1 or2 to find some good stuff. Most have mostly clothes but you never know what you'll find. I've bought 2 Cubs, a 1-1/2 hp John Deere hit & miss engine, below:

Also, front wheel weights for my Cub for $15 and many tools that I normally couldn't afford. If I'd never stopped, I'd never have known.

That is why I at least look at the yard sales. Most are as Mr. John says but, you never know.

Nice find.

There is a big difference between 'wants and needs' but who cares at that price. Maybe you should go back the 3rd time and check the hem house.
