Axle housing leaks
Just finished mowing and discovered gear lube dripping from the drain hole under the brake band on each axle housing. The right side seems worse than left but both dripping pretty good. New seals for the axles?

Re: Axle housing leaks
Check the level of your final drives first. Yes - Seals for sure. You will probably have to burn your brakes dry also. They get soaked when it leaks there.

Re: Axle housing leaks
Keep in mind those seals are more for keeping dust out than they are for keeping oil in. You may have excess condensation in your tranny allowing the lube to raise above the axle in which case you probably just need to drain and flush the trans and refill with 3 1/2 pints of gear lube.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Axle housing leaks
They are grease seals, have you ever noticed a numbered lo boy [ transmission is the tank for the hydraulic fluid ] ? The seal is near the fluid level. If the seals , bearings and shaft are good it will not leak. But check the transmission for water in the fluid more than likely it will have some in it.You will need to replace the seals. This is just my opinion.

Re: Axle housing leaks
I am with Barnyard on this one. I would drain and refill and not worry about the seals.

Re: Axle housing leaks
There are four seals in that area.
Wouldn't hurt to replace all four.

Re: Axle housing leaks
385872R91 is NOS 10681 and 381907R91 is NOS 16117. Here is a good reference http://www.atis.net/CubFAQ/cub_faq.html#q7

Thanks Barnyard. I knew I had seen that list before but I couldn't find it.
