Hey Guys,
Now that ive figured out the surging problem ive moved on to rebuilding my hydraulic pump because it is leaking oil into the engine. After doing some research I keep noticing that the older pumps used a flat leather main seal and the new ones use an o-ring. My cub is a 1950, so im not sure if it would be considered the "old style" or not?
Anyways, I guess I just want to know if I am ordering the correct parts? Here are the numbers from TM: Stock# HY288. I dont see a flat leather seal in there but the description says it fits 1947-1964 cubs.
Thanks!
Scott

Re: hydraulic pump rebuild kit
Scott, The leather seals are not made anymore, except for some special applications. The rubber seal you get in the kit from TM is more durable. It will probably be thinner which allows you to place it on the shaft away from any grooves from previous wear.

Re: hydraulic pump rebuild kit
I do not think the seal is included in the seal kit from TM unless it has been changed. IH 355742R91 or NAPA 5068. the same kit fits either pump, but the seal had to be purchased separately if needed.

Re: hydraulic pump rebuild kit
John is correct about the seal (as always). The kit only includes the o-ring that replaced the seal. When you get the pump off, see if you can find the part # of the pump. If it ends in an R92, it takes the seal. If it ends in R93, it takes the o-ring in the kit.

Re: hydraulic pump rebuild kit
Hey Guys,
Success!! I got the pump rebuilt last night, re-installed and bled. I have to say that the hydraulics seem stronger than ever and no longer make the whinning noise.
Also, I cant say enough good things about Tom over at TM tractors. He was very helpful answering any questions i had about the kit, and shipped it very fast.
Thanks everyone for the input!
