I also have redone a cub or two. I have removed the remains of a broken pipe in the manifold by heating the pipe and getting it loose and collapsing it, Then cleaned the threads with a dremel tool and the dremel wirebrush. The first cub I did was before the internet was around to ask advice. Was not my intention to insult with the post for the new manifold. I inch pipe tap priced would be $20 dollars on ebay and up top $90 at other places. I did this with the manifold on the tractor. Then I removed the manifold the passages were close to being blocked by baked in oil. That is why if I had a place to buy a $95 dollar manifold that was clean inside and out I would have done it. But you know to each his on.

I replaced my manifold too but only because the pipe had been welded to it and it broke off again. I don't remember what I spent for the new manifold but it was worth it to me at the time.

I have the tap. He's bringing the manifold to Cecil's cubfest. We'll fix it, if it is fixable.

I don't think anyone is insulting any one by deciding whether or not to buy a new manifold....Don't worry about it....I simply believe if it can be fixed it will be.... Kinda like fixing a tire or buying a new one.. Maybe that will clear it up for you... :D

If the threads are beyond repair, you can go ahead and do a "last chance" repair.

Weld or braze a new BLACK pipe in. Don't use galvanized because welding on galvanized creates phosgene gas, which will mess you up as bad or worse than the isocyanides in paint hardener.

....Headers were my next choice,Jim  .....Gotta say that Ed is a persistent sort....But the tap finally caught and threaded :{_}: ....Nice job also I might add....Installed the black pipe (thanks Matt)....I put a little exhaust sealer to build up the ridge on the manifold ( 2000 degree stuff) and let it harden yesterday and last night...Will pretty it up and paint it this AM...Hey, it was worth the carrying ons at the vise, even if I had to throw it away...  ....But we didn't....Thanks Ed, Dave :thanx:
