Hi,
I recently bought a 1949 Farmall H and then bought points for it , but they didn’t fit. The number on the distributor is 353898R1. Is this the correct distributor? If it is, what is the correct points part number? Thanks for any and all advice.
PS do you know the NAPA part number for he points by chance, I bought cs763a but they wouldn't fit.

Re: Farmall H Distributor Question
I don't have any part no. handy, but my H and several others I've seen have Delco distrbutors. They are mounted vertically while the IH distributors and mags are horizontal. The IH and Delco use different points. Hope this is some help. John

Re: Farmall H Distributor Question
there are also some prestolite distributors out there for farmalls.. They look used like and IH but are cast from aluminum.
I knew a guy with a 45 H. His magneto wore out and he found this new presolite distributor somewhere. I put it on for him. Everytime it needed new points, he would go to CaseIh. Case couldn't come up with the correct set.
I would have to get points from NAPA or Carquest.

Re: Farmall H Distributor Question
An H in 1949 would have come with a magneto. They changed to battery ignition at SN 340954 (mid-1950). Your mag was probably changed out for an IH battery ignition unit at some later date. When you went to NAPA, they probably gave you points for a magneto. 353898R1 is the correct number for an IH battery ignition distributor. The same points fit most IH distributors, the part number Boss Hog posted.

Re: Farmall H Distributor Question
Thank you Gentlemen, it all makes sense now. I guess I’m going to have to convert it to 12 volt, what do you think? Does anyone have any suggestions on what alternator I should purchase and install on this jewel? Thanks again for all the good advice.

Search function on this site. There are several recent discussions on 12 volt conversions and types of alternators used.Virginia Joe wrote:Does anyone have any suggestions on what alternator I should purchase and install on this jewel?

Re: Farmall H Distributor Question
old post for cubs same part #s
The part # for the new self exciting at low RPMs is 213 401 1SW They work flawlessly I have been using them for a few months now. they charge at an Idle and drop back as they should. I pay $41 plus core charge. They fit fine under the cub hood, after all that is what IH used from mid 75 until the end of production.
The # for the coil with internal resister is IC14SB $22 with new bracket, the original does not fit well
