Trying to overhaul hydraulics. Please Help
Hi,
I have a 1948 cub. Read about hydraulics that run but don't lift when getting to load. Decided to overhaul the pump. Bought seal kit from Case IH.
1. Removed the hydraulic lines.
2. Removed all 4 bolts from pump.
3. Pulled on pump.
4. Front part came off, exposing interior gears. I could not get the part attached to the tractor off.
5. Realized I have to put the 2 shorter bolts back in the pump to pull back half of pump off.
6. Put in 2 shorter bolts. 1 in top passenger side and 1 in lower driver side. They don't seem almost stripped. Don't tighten much.
7. Can not get pump to come off the tractor.
Am I missing a bolt some where? I just can not get the pump off.
Thanks for your help and patients.
Because I really feel like idontknowwhatimdoing.

don't,
Sounds like the pump is sticking to the gasket and the gasket is sticking to the tractor. Have you tried some light hammer taps to the pump body? That's what I would do.

Thanks, I didn't know if I could take a hammer to it.
But a block of wood and a few good wacks, I got it off.
Now the rest of the fun begins.
Thank You Denny

Re: Trying to overhaul hydraulics. Please Help
Thanks Mike,
Read all the Hydraulics will not lift posts, did come across how to repair the pump. Got the installation directions from IH. Just having small issues not covered by the manuals.
1. So I got the the gear nut lock bent away.
2. Removed the gear nut.
3. Removed the gear from the drive shaft.
4. Then it says to remove the drive gear key with a diagonal cutter and discard. Use new key provided.
Well I didn't get a new drive gear key.
Is there an easy way to get this out without damage, to reuse?

To get the key out, you can gently tap on one end of the key and then the other to get it loose. You can also use a small chisel and tap under one end to lift it up. That key is commonly available at hardware stores, but if you gouge or nick it you can also file it smooth and reuse it. Save the lock washer, you don't want to have to buy a new one ($$$).

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Thanks Barnyard, Denny, Mike, and Bob,
Barnyard that was a big help.
Got it done and back on the Cub.
Temp is in the teens today, will add fluid and try it tomorrow when it gets back to the 30's.

Re: Trying to overhaul hydraulics. Please Help
Filled the hydraulics. Worked the lever back and forth 10 times (without the filler plug).
Filled more fluid and worked it about 10 more times (without the filler plug).
Rockshaft arms were moving all the way forward and all the way back.
Put the filler plug back in and tightened.
Hooked up blade.
Pushed the lever forward to lift the blade and the rockshaft arm moved forward to load and stopped.
Lifted the blade by hand and the rockshaft continued forward and held the blade. Repeated this several times.
Removed filler plug checked fluid level. Fluid level was still right at lip of filler plug hole.
Why won't the hydraulics lift a load?

Sounds like your problem is in the Touch Control unit and not the pump.
