Concerning the Deep South Cubfest, how many people attend this? Do people usually trailer their Cubs to show them? Looks like something that can be added to my bucket list!

Most Cubfest are a combination of working on any cubs that have been brought, (or pieces thereof), watching those folks who are working on them, or simply sitting around telling BS stories about those same folks!!! OH! And of course there is lots of good food!

Seriously, there are usually up to a dozen tractors brought, some to show, some to work on. Some of the most common projects are replacing seals on finals (and maybe the brake linings), tuneups, front seal replacement, and several carb rebuilds thanks to a couple of our carb experts. For the carbs, you need to get the appropriate kit, if it needs an overhaul. If it just needs to be cleaned and adjusted, you may only need to get a GOOD gasket. Touch Control (hydraulic) units are frequent rebuild projects...in fact, I may bring one myself, along with the proper rebuild kit.

Some of the other folks will clue you in on other stuff, but you really learn a lot, and most of the "experts" are willing to share their wide-ranging knowledge and time. Check out the list of Cubfests (viewforum.php?f=8) and pick one out!

Thanks Dale , I will do that. I see that you emphasized a "GOOD" gasket. I thought I read somewhere that sometimes people will double up on the gasket. Is that needed for a warped intake? I don't think I have a problem there, I just put a new carb and gasket on my Cub. On a cold startup, sometimes it takes some cranking, but in the summer it fires right up! I fully understand how to set the point gap and set the timing, so I wonder if a little thicker gasket would fix that problem.

Snoman, Some of the aftermarket gaskets are either paper or a thin "cork". If the carb top is warped at all, the thinner gasket may not seal and leak. If you have a new carb, that shouldn't be a problem. If you can make it to DSCF, bring your old carb and get it rebuilt as a spare (the tops are easily flattened).

What a compliment ricky racer! Thank you! Your Cub , I feel, is somthing that everybody in The Snow Belt should model theres after! I would love to carbon copy your Cub ! Do you know where I can get a bypass block for the hydraulics? Concerning tomorrow, I think I will wait untill Wed. or Thur. to plow! It is Brutal here already!

Thanks Snowman. If you think the top of your carb is warped, next time you have your Cub running spray a little carb cleaner around the carb / manifold connection. If the motor revs up, you've got an air leak which might be your cold weather starting issue.

If thats the case, would a thicker gasket be a fix? I have several pieces of gasket material and cut my own.

Since you have a new carb, that flange should be flat. You might find it only takes a few strokes with a file to flatten the exhaust manifold flange. More work than adding a second gasket, but probably also more predictable.

I think Roy had about 100 people show up last year. I will be trailering Cub down from the Cincinnati area. Check out the scheduled that Dale posted. I will be hosting a CubFest here the end of May you might be interested in attending also.
