National Pie Day at the nursing home
Mom has been in a local nursing home a little over a year now and I am there nearly every day, and the days I do not make it My wife goes. Mom is nearly all the way to the back and as I go through I stop and talk or kid with many I see along the way, and it has gotten to the point some watch for me and it sometimes takes 10 or 15 minutes to make the walk due to all the stops. The activity director is always trying to come up with something to keep the residents interested and moving around, and today was pie sampling day. Joann made 2 pies using a pumpkin pie recipe but instead of pumpkins they were made with butternut (Winter) squash which was a big hit.
I also told the director that if she would make the pie, I would take a pie in the face with the person to throw it being selected by the residents. Needless to say, that was a big hit, and to my surprise, there were 4 whipped cream pies waiting for me. I had to help a couple of the ladies due to their disabilities, but they all had fun, almost as much fun as me.

As I was looking at the pics, I thought "you're a good sport, John". Don beat me to it. That had to be a good time for the residents.

That is a mighty fine deed you are doing. So many of the folks in the rest homes are neglected.

That was a good thing you did for the residents at the home, John. So many are put in there and forgotten about. A little kindness and attention to them goes a long way. It makes their day. Thanks.

Re: National Pie Day at the nursing home
I am am a big kid at heart in an old geezer's body! If you can't laugh at yourself who else you gonna laugh at ? I cannot speak for other areas, but people where Mom is have a lot more visitors than I expected. A few do not have family in the area, and only get occasional visitors, but most have visitors at least twice a week, and many have visitors everyday. The biggest problem in any nursing home is boredom. They have exercises 3 times a week for those who are capable of doing anything, of course they are geared to people who are not capable of getting up and moving around. I attend many of them and clown around a bit during the exercises, and it is amazing how many people that normally just want to sit there will watch me and do the exercises I do.

Heck, I'd sit and watch you do exercises. I'll bet that is a sight to see. Good work, Old man.
