I have bought 3 in the last year. They all have leaked after a couple of months. They don't leak when the gas is on. But when I turn the gas all the way off. Do you think there is a difference between the $18 one and the $48 one.

IMHO none should leak. Where is the leak? At the bowl gasket? ...or at the petcock?

Are you sure it's the glass bowl itself or is it the seal or some other issue? Did you replace the cork (or rubber) gasket when you bought a new bowl?
Currently, I have a gas leak above the bowl that slowly drips down to the shutoff valve handle. I need to remove and replace the packing in the shutoff valve this Spring. There have also been times where I didn't get the screen mesh filter lined up properly with the cork (or rubber) gasket on top of the glass bowl. When tightened, it allowed a little gas to seep out around the lip of the bowl and drip down.
You might wipe everything down real good and dry. Then, cut some strips of tan or brown construction paper (or brown wrapping paper) 1/4" wide and 3" long. Use the strips to touch certain areas of the bowl to determine where the gas leak is coming from. The gas will show up quickly on the paper strips and you won't get gas on your fingers.
Once you know where it's leaking from, you can address the issue better.

If it's shut tight and you have continuous drips/leaks the shutoff is not seating and seeping through the stem, presuming every thing else is tight. If you have an old one with the same issue the I'd take the shutoff valve apart and try to get it to seat better. If it drips a little and stops after a while it's probably the o-ring/packing on the stem of the shut off, but that would tend to drip all the time.

I agree with Don on this. The cheap ones have been leakers for me, so I buy the good ones from TM, no more leaks.
