I named mine "Ol Red" because it is older than me and I use to have red hair. My tractor has many names when it will not start or run right but most of the time I just shorten it to Red. I have not named my JD yet other than the money pit project.

Maybe the practice was a carryover from farmers naming their draft and other animals.

I named my cubs different names so my wife would know where to find me. See, they are stored in different barns and sheds around the farm. If I want to confuse here I just say I'll be with the Cubs.

I had never thought about naming a tractor till I was in the process of refurbishing my 48, and had some health problems, and Bud fisher took it back to Mississippi and finished it for me. While it ws there his young daughter name it Missy, so Missy it is. since then my 49 is George T. after George Tapp who I bought it from, and my 47 is Loader cub ( it has the Wagner loader on it). My Farmall H has become E.J. after my father who farmed with it for 45 years. Of course when I am having trouble with one, the names I call it cannot be printed here.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

I named my '57 Cub "Emory" after my grandfather. My Cub has casting dates of March 1957 which is when my grandfather passed away. I never knew him - as I was born in 1959 however any farming he did in the 20's and 30's was with a team of horses in Minnesota.

That is counterproductive. They get insulted, and start to deliberately work against your efforts to start them. (I learned this with Leigh, my MG.)

Having so many tractors I don't usually name them but I did have an old 9n that had a crack in the exhaust manifold. So I went to change it out with one I had laying in the barn. I guess I didn't check it close enough and some of the mice had got into the corn I use for my chicken scratch and was storing it in the exhaust manifold. Put the manifold on started it up and it ran good for about a minute then started to run rough and as it warmed up it started to smell like burnt popcorn. I took in all apart cleaned it out and had to keep taking the carb apart and keep clean it. After that It ran good but the "Popcorn" name stuck.

I named my Super A "Chief". I am a Pontiac enthusiast. My first car was a 78 Phoenix and my current is an 07 Grand Prix.

The name comes from the old style Pontiac logos depicting a Native American head. Chief Pontiac
