On February 1st I made a trip to a Tractor Salvage yard here in Ohio. A friend had told me about a F-11 Fast Hitch Hillside plow that he had seen there. I found that plow, and since I had never been to their place before I inquired about what other CUB Implements that they might have. They had the usual sickle bar, snow plow, etc., so we started to look at the other CUB tractors, most of them stripped. Anyway, my young host came upon this basket case of a CUB that was basically castings only and joked about the White paint under the RED. He made the comment "it's probably a demonstrator" but I think he was only joking ! So, when I realized that there was WHITE paint under the RED I started looking real close. The serial tag was gone, the bolster had been frozen and cracked and welded, heavily. Next, I took my knife and scraped the layers of grease, red paint, and white paint off to read the engine serial number which was 100870. Then I looked at some of the casting numbers; all were late December of 1949. Took photos, said maybe but not sure, and left.
All the way home I thought about it being a real CUB demonstrator. I drove fast because I wanted to call Jeff in Indiana to see if I did indeed discover one. Made the call, told him what I had seen, and he said "you have found a demonstrator !" It was a LONG weekend ! Yesterday, I brought that "Road Hard and Put Away Wet", tractor home. I am seeing traces of WHITE everywhere.

Kevin sent me a couple of pics to post to this thread. I haven't been able to work out the kinks in the system to get that done. I'll work on it tomorrow. My apologies, Kevin.

Re: A special CUB added to the collection
The no serial # tag is not good , good luck with it, I turned down a running 50 with white paint today, the guy wanted $1200 for it. I did not make an offer, did not want to make him mad as I have bought a few from him before. It was a POJ , but cubs are not that high here and prices are down.

Kevin and Boss:
Fortunately, I didn't have to pay a lot for it. When you see the photos you will understand why ! LOL. Boss; I sure wish it had the serial tag, but it was either go home with me or get parted out and lost forever. It will be a real challenge, but at least I can spray some white paint with some proof that it was a real demonstrator.
Boss, I bet you would have paid that $1200 if it had a SQUARE nose ! LOL. It is sad, but like most other hobbies we are seeing a HUGE decline of interest by the younger generation. Thank GOD for those who are interested.
