Anybody recognize these broken pieces?
So - I was happily pushing snow yesterday when my 154 ceased to move forward or backward under it's own power.
As I towed it back to the garage I found these pieces in the driveway (actually found a fourth similar piece later in the day).
They must be from a "dry" location as there was not any fluid on the pavement.
Symptoms are:
a) With engine running tractor will not move. Transmission feels like it is engaging (I can feel the detent as I move the shifter from gear to gear). Seems like the clutch is ok - if I remember correctly I can see things spinning and stop spinning as I disengage and engage the clutch pedal. No noises of any kind (that is, no grinding or clacking as the tractor sits there "freewheeling").
Other pertinent comments (maybe):
b) Just did a fairly straightforward 2-3 shifter fork replacement the day before. No noticeable issues (like no leftover parts and/or nothing fell into the transmission). There was a slight clacking noise in reverse the two or three applications before the failure. Plowing at my house consists of a lot of forward and then reverse gear changes.
I saw the earlier similar thread today "LoBoy 154 will not move" but my tractor does not have the creeper setup.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance -
K

Re: Anybody recognize these broken pieces?
Looks like their cast iron. Could be from the flywheel on back of engine.were the drive shaft bolts up.

Re: Anybody recognize these broken pieces?
I really don't know what those are from but they are cast iron. Given that you have 4 of them and obviously something in the drive line has let go I suggest that it should be easy to see where they came from. Maybe a bearing retainer from the differential cover or where the final bolts to the extension housing. Any broken link in the driveline will likely cause it not to move. Since those broken bits look significant maybe something is ready to fall off, like a final drive, I really hope not!!

Re: Anybody recognize these broken pieces?
My best guess is parts of the clutch pressure plate, ears off of either #25 or #26 in this illustration:

Good call Jim. I'll bet you're right (as usual) as a 154 doesn't have a torque tube those pieces would fall out. That would be pretty easy to check too.

Looking at the pictures again and refering to an image from stiner it looks like you have broken your transmision fly wheel were the pin goes through it and holds it to the trans input shaft.

Thanks, everyone, for your attention and replies.
Right now, based on the pieces, I'm liking the looks of the pic Pete posted (aka #7 on Jim Becker's part list). I'm going to give that area some attention and will let you all know what I find.

Re: Anybody recognize these broken pieces?
I have had a flywheel break on me due to the nut falling off the bolt and the bolt sliding out and binding causing it to break. It takes a special bolt and nut.

Re: Anybody recognize these broken pieces?
The breaks on some of those pieces appear fairly old, as if it has been partly broken for a long time and finally finished the job.

Look at the flange that bolt to the flywheel behind the engine, they fail from time to time

Re: Anybody recognize these broken pieces?
Parts have arrived and the tractor is tore down, so I thought I would give a quick update:
a) Our friend 64/67loboy was correct: the broken pieces are from the rear clutch pressure plate. It broke the snout and was rattling around loose, supported on either side by the pilot bushings.
b) In the process of checking everything over I thought it would be prudent to look for broken/missing teeth on any transmission gears. I'm glad I did. It's missing a few teeth on the reverse slider gear, which will now need to be replaced. I tend to think that was the primary failure and that the teeth wedged in the trans, causing an instant bind and then breaking the rear clutch pressure plate (that the rear failure was a secondary failure).
As soon as I can drain the fluid, fish the broken pieces out and verify that there is no other collateral damage then I'll order the next batch of parts and go back together.
8" of snow overnight, by the way. Snow day today and I'll spend it working on the tractor

Re: Anybody recognize these broken pieces?
As expected, six broken teeth off the sliding 1st/Reverse gear...
Plus - a "bonus" broken piece. Looks like part of a previous 2nd/3rd slider fork failure, that I didn't know was missing.
Parts will be on order momentarily.

Was wondering how things are going. If you get a chance could you post some pic's of the broken pieces/parts?
Thanks - and good luck.

Yep. Got a box from HamiltonBob's last night so will probably get out there tonight and start going back together.
I'll post up some pics of the carnage.

Goin' back together.
The driveline is all re-installed; just need to add the rear cover plate and fill with fluid and trim everything out (fenders, side shields, etc).
A couple more pics of the damaged parts:
