Clutches and where to get one
Trying to figure out if there is a difference in clutches and where to buy one from. Is there a good clutch and a bad clutch. Thanks.

Good clutches are USA made, bad ones, had a long boat ride. Try to get a remanufactured USA made, or a used one, rather than an import.

Re: Clutches and where to get one
Assuming the question was on a clutch kit, Ditto what Ed said.
Unless the pressure plate is damaged, you may only need a throw out bearing and or clutch disk. Again, Ed's advise applies, buy quality US made products.
The advertisers on this board sell quality products as well as your Case/IH dealership.
Edit: New Holland dealers handle Case/IH parts but you will need the IH part number.

I bought my clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and pilot bushing from TM Tractor Parts. All were Case/IH parts.

Hoss, look at the face of the pressure plate and the lining on the disk. If they are in good shape and it is NOT slipping, save the money and don't replace them.

Re: Clutches and where to get one
Jim, I purchased one last week for a 1957 Cub Loboy from Hamiltonbobs for $78 plus tax and shipping. Included was a clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bushing and alignment tool. Installation went well and clutch works perfectly. They are located in Hamilton, Ohio and you share the same zip code. I see that you are new to this forum, you can find a link to HamiltonBobs website at the Links Directory under the Board Forum or you can call them at 513-582-8424.

Re: Clutches and where to get one
$78? You sure?
That had to be a one-time deal or a clerical error because that kit was around $200 last year when I grenaded the clutch on my '53.
It is Hy-capacity part number "351760 KIT"

Re: Clutches and where to get one
Got mine from the local parts house for $130.00 plus a core charge. It was the pressure plate, throw out bearing, disk, pilot bushing and alignment tool. Gary Dotson and Steve Buttram gave it a good looking over and thought it was a good deal.
Bring that Cub and the parts to the CubFest the end of the month and we can put it on the project list where somebody will give you a hand with it..

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Clutches and where to get one
Here is a link for the clutch kit I used from HamiltonBobs.

I first saw it on their website, but I am new to Farmall Cubs. I have messed around with Farmall A's for 30 years. I called them to confirm what I needed and ordered it. It arrived 2 days later, installation and adjustment was easy. This is my first time using HamiltonBobs but I was very satisfied with the purchase. Time will tell if it was a good buy or not. Last fall I replaced a clutch assembly in an International Industrial A and the kit cost $250. I was very pleased with the price for the Cub. Also, as I am new to Cubs, I am very impressed with this little tractor. This is my son-in-laws tractor, he purchased it last week, we replaced the clutch assy, adjusted the valves, tuned it up, got it charging, lubed everything and topped off the gear oil levels in the driveunits. I was skeptical that it had the guts to run a 5' belly mower but tonight I watched him cut 12" of grass in 2nd gear. Nice tractor, I may have to get one for myself!!!

That's the hy-capacity kit.
But $78??? Hamilton Bob must be running around shirtless, giving parts away at prices like that.

Re: Clutches and where to get one
Jeb2, Did you check the adjustment of the fingers? A lot of guys assume they come set correctly from the factory, but they often are not and you'll chew up the thrust bearing if they aren't at the correct height and even.

Yes, we adjusted all 3 of them before installation.
