Re: Is this correct
This looks the same as my tractor front axle. I haven't checked the parts book, however it appears that they used two different size tie rod tube diameters, and the pictured unit appears to have the smaller diameter tube. The industrial tractors used a diamond shaped axle tube instead of the round tube.

Looks correct to me.
The design changed very little from the original 1947 Super A all the way through the end of the 140s. The major change was a switch to the 6-bolt pressed steel wheels in 1959.

Ohhhhhh, sheet metal!
When you say "front end" I immediately look down.
Nope, that has the '64-'79 grille on it.
If it is really a '61, then it should have the 560-style grille.

Possibly the wheel change occurred earlier. Mine is definitely a 1958 and it has those wheels. But the tractor had previous owners, so anything is possible.

Re: Is this correct
The linked photo appears to be that of a 140 of serial number 23301 or above. I have an official parts catalog TC-52B from CaseIH but the pages look to be photocopies of a printed original. The parts catalog page of the grille is not good.

Re: Is this correct
Thanks for all of the info guys. I will have to start checking casting numbers to see what is going on with my 140, do the rear end, bell housing and engine dates match up.

Re: Is this correct
OK guys, I checked the casting code dates today and the three pieces I could check easily, tranny, torque tube and the touch control assy. We're all 1961. I could not see the engine number but will assume it is also "G". It has a later model steering wheel, I H Case center cap. It makes me wonder if the tractor was rolled at some point and replaced the sheet metal with some off of a junker. Oh we'll this is a working tractor so I guess it does not matter that much. The only problem I see is that now I must find another to fix up to look at and ride in parades dang it.

Re: Is this correct
Are there cast codes or dates on any parts from the front axle down? Just picked up a 1969 140 that looks to be in good original shape but it has the older style cast hubs and it makes you think someone changed the axle at some point........BUT it matches the patina of the original paint on the tractor and "looks" to be as original as the rest of it. Were those an option on the 140 ? Just curious if there is a way to date an axle or the hubs?

Re: Is this correct
There might be casting codes on the hubs. I have seen some with and some without. I Don't think there will be anything on the axle itself.

Re: Is this correct
Would a dealer update the sheet metal to help sell an older NOS tractor? I remember Honda dating titles year of sale instead of year of manufacture.

I believe so. Check the parts book. I know you can see them in some 140 brochures. It probably depends on tire size.

Re: Is this correct
Ok Jim. Thanks for the info, I will have to check the online parts book. I wish I had a Parts book that was 140 specific.
That does explain some of the tractors I've see with this axle and tells me I can't rely on that when determining if its an actual 140 (some I've seen were 100's being passed off as a 140).
