Cub 22 mower help

Postby tmays » Mon Jun 09, 2014 9:48 pm

Need a little clarification. When setting the register, knife sections should be centered in the guards at the outer or inner limits of pitman travel. Does this mean tip of knife is centered between the guards or is tip of knife located in the guard at this point? If you follow what I'm saying...:-)

Edit: and once center is clarified, manual says 'turn shoe hinge in direction needed' to center knives. Correct me if in wrong, but turning hinge raises or lowers front of bar, right? Doesn't do anything to center. Help! :-)
Thanks
Thomas

I thought that the sections should center in the guards at end of the stroke! thanks; sonny

That's correct, Sonny. I need 'in the guards' clarified. I assume it means the tip of knife is hidden in the slot on the guards. But of course y'all know what happens when you assume.

ok,--tip of knife and center tip of guard should line up dead even,--meaning equal amounts of section showing on each side of guard ledger plate. thanks; sonny

That's what I think, Sonny. Mine needs adjusted. Guard needs to move toward tractor about an inch. Won't budge in or out

Has it got a home made pitman stick? The length may be wrong.
Have you set the cutter bar lead per the Owner's Manual? Changing the lead (by moving the bracket in the front implement mount) will change the register.

Once those things are right, look at adjusting the register by turning the hinge in or out.

Thanks, Jim. Lead is correct. Was 1". I moved it to 1.25". Helped some. Pitman wood is brand new from Case IH. How do I adjust hinge? That is part I'm not grasping. Sorry, first time sickle mower user here.
