Junk

Postby Tezell » Wed Jun 11, 2014 3:53 pm

Picked up a 61 today.
Motor is free. The tractor has been turned over at some point. The radiator support on the left side is bent along with the hood. Inside the tank is a mess and the shifter is stuck. Three bad tires and both front rims are trashed. It has the tires that I believe came on it when it was new. I do not believe it has a lot of hours use. The guy I got it from got it from his Dad and it has been sitting out side for over ten years. It has about half of one of the Sunflower mowers on it, the other half has rusted away. It will be a chore to get it back running but I am up for it.

Mother was telling me she thought "this was the worst one she has ever seen" in the picture below.

Sadly I told her that I have brought home much worst.

Re: Junk *** Update

Postby Tezell » Wed Sep 10, 2014 7:14 pm

The hardest part was removing the hood. Changed the plugs, filed the points, cleaned the carb, primed the oil pump, attached the pony tank, connected the battery, filled the radiator and it first sputtered and then a few more tries and it started.

It runs very well. The hydraulics work. It needs a seal in the transmission. The clutch needs attention. The charging system is shot(Napa has a fix for that) and I have got to straighted a few things due to it being rolled over. After that I think it will be a pretty good tractor.

I think the man said it had been sitting outside and had not ran for over 10 years. Also did I mention it was less than a mile from a salt water bayou. Gotta love them Cubs!

Polarizing the generator and/or burnishing the points in the regulator/cutout may be all the charging system needs.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

It's a challenge right? Turn that ugly duckling into a crowd pleaser.

I had three non running dirtbikes once. I disassembled all of them and took all the decent parts from each bike I mixed and matched the parts and it ran awesome. I even measured the good piston to see which cylinder had the best fit. I love a challenge.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

She sounds smooth Tim! I'll help thin your barn out so you can have room to work on this one. Will be a few months before you're ready for the rattle can but confident she'll be a gem one day. Consider a mini-fest this fall--we could swarm on it one weekend, Jim

Congrats! Now that you have a running Cub, it's all a matter of elbow grease and the downhill slide to the finish line. Know you'll do a great job!

Keep us posted. :coffee:
