8 HP engine for Original's?
I was brwsing one of the sites that a previous member had poisted and I saw an 8 HP and a 7 HP engines for the Original? is this right? I have what looks to be the 8HP one in mine. just wondering about it, here's the site, http://wssemw.arinet.com/Empartweb52/sc ... I52.dll?MF if you click on the "Engine K181-8 Hp" link it will take you to the parts break down view. Just wondering if I have the right engine or not.

When the K161 7 hp engine, was no longer available from Kohler, IH used the K181 8 hp engines - short blocks, mini blocks and complete engines, as replacement engines for the Original, models 70, 71, 72, and 73. The model 86 and the model 800, were the only Cub Cadets IH built that came with an 8 hp engine.

The K-181 has been the replacement engines for Originals that Cub Cadet dealers put in as replacement engine. The biggest clue is that they have the round element air filter instead of the oil bath that the Original used. The parts manual for all the 7 HP Cub Cadets have the K-161 and the K-181 parts breakdowns in the pars TC-113. I have an old 73 TC-113(rev 12) without a date that doesn't have the K-181 listed. Look at the Kohler engine tag and it usually tells you if its a K-181. I think they gave a new tag with the short blocks which is on the flywheel cover.
The Geezer from IHregistry.com which crashed and is now Cub Cadet Collectors.
