Expert Help Needed on Air Filter Question

Postby Patbretagne » Fri Dec 23, 2005 6:06 am

Hi,
I am in a dilemma and I need your expert advice.

We are getting further into the dismantling of the Lanz 5506 "Le Compacte" of 1952.

Having had it running, see other article, the wheels are off, have been welded up where rotted through and shotblasted and cold galvanised, the wings are off and will go the same way after christmas, but there is just one item that I'm not too sure what to do with.

Is it time to wash the air cleaner element now or would it be in order to wait another few hundred hours before cleaning it?

Your Christmas ideas please.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year,
Pat and Noëlle

It should be good for another 100,000 km or so Patrick! No sense rushing and cleaning or replacing it yet.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Pat, That is a strange looking critter. What kind of material is that filter made of?. From the picture it looks like felt or something close to an insulating material. I would clean it the best you can with air-pressure if it is not to fragile as to fall apart. It depends on the material as to what method I would use on cleaning it.

Pat surely you jest. That is quite a unique filter. There have been occassions I wish I had one like that. Especially when my carb jet was plugged and I had to keep the choke fully on to get it back to the barn.
