Puzzling Cookies Question
I have always wondered why when I come on board here from a saved addy in my mail list that the auto log-in works fine.
"BUT" when I come on board from the new post alert e-mails on posts that I am active in here it does not recognize me and requires a new log-in even though I am entering from the same source. It has been like this since I have been a member. Other forum new post alerts I get always recognize me so it has something to do with this boards system only?.

that will probably have to be answered by Dennis. I have never seen that problem. The only time I have to relog in is when I have cleaned my puter of spyware, malware and other bots.... which removed tracking cookies and other data miners that are a little more malicious..

I don't use the alerts, so I'll have to test this out. Has anyone else experienced this before?

Charles, Thats exactly the results that I get.
I see that you are using WebTv also so maybe it is just a WebTv thing .
But I get alerts from 4 other forums and they all recognize me from the mail alert post link.

I also use the alerts, but very seldom click on em... there are just too many to be opening up that many windows... so I just delete em and then pop open my tabs which brings up farmallcub.com....
However, I just tried it, and it works perfect for me.
This has to be a WebTV issue and I would probably bet dollars to doughnuts, that you might be able to get some resolution to this question by getting hold of your WebTV support people...
I have never even seen WebTV, so I haven't got a clue where to start....
Hope that this helps a tiny morsel or so...

I found this with a little searching that may be a clue to what is going wrong:
Here is the link to check your WebTV cookie's on their server:
http://developer.webtv.net/status_board/stat.html
Problem with WebTV cookie server: You might be able to tell if there is a problem with a WebTV cookie server if you go to this WebTV status page. If you see a yellow or red symbol next to 'Cookies,' then there is a problem in a WebTV cookie server. You should contact WebTV about that.

Status board
Looked there but it seems that the board has been non-functional since 9/27/05.
The "WE DON'T CARE TEAM" at WebTv
seem to be doing their usual.

I was wondering how a guest posted on here since Dennis stopped allowing guest posts a long time ago.
That status board has not worked in a long time. WebTv used to be good until MSN bought them out. The monthly fee has never been reduced but the service keeps getting reduced monthly it seems. When I first came on WebTv in 98 it was much better than it is now. But I still like the ease of using it without worrying about all the troubles PC users have that I read about such as VIRUSes wiping you out. I would have to learn all over if I got a P.C. and that scares this old man.

WebTv
I've been been a WEBBER for a long time also. Your right about the declining service. Seems that every upgrade is really a downgrade since MSN got their sticky paws involved.
THe great thing is that we don't have to worry about crashes and viruses. Was given an ancient PC and if I can find some memory that is above its 32M, I might try to get on the net. Its just a learning tool now with Windows 98.
