Snow Blowers

OK, all you northerners and mid-westerners out there, who makes the best walk-behind snow blower and why? Thanks in advance.

That's easy.

MTD, more specifically their YardMan series blowers. I have a 13/33 which works wonders. Used it for all the snow in the previous two years. This year only twice - kept blowing shear pins from stuff picked up in the driveway - mostly ICE!. My Cub has taken up some of the snow chores and my brother-in-law has a DodgeRam with a blade. He seems to come by early in the morning before I get up -- and poof driveway is clean!

I do like my blower though. Waited 12 years to get one - finally could find one used that I could afford -- $1100 I paid for it, then saw what a new one went for $2400 -- ouch!

I have a snow giant that I bought from a fella at a mower shop who's
deceased now...8hp beast...I made paddle type bolt on treads for
the spindley wheels it has...now it will climb a mountain,,,BUT its a single stage blower and that is a problem...since the auger moves with the wheels at speed and that is the factor which makes it unrulely and easily
jammed.....get a 2 stage blower with decent size tires if you are off
hard pavement....ill sell this one to yah for 225.00 bucks if you want it
she'll do the job ...but a 2 stage can be slowed up and toss snow
at your leasure.
Heck the 5hp single stage sears ancient blower I had before was awsome but tired....little bugger would dig in...the snow giant will do a lane in 3 swipes....

I've got a Toro 5 hp, 21 inch cut and it's about 12 years old. I got it used from a guy at work who wanted a bigger one about 6 years ago. Needs a new auger clutch now, the original is worn and slips. We usually have wet snow which is hard on that drive clutch. Only problem I've with it. This dry powder doesn't faze it.

When we were in New Jersey, a friend of mine who moved South, gave me his Simplicity 8 h.p. 2 stage snow blower . It had an electric "plug in" start and pull chord start. It was THE BEST SNOW BLOWER I ever had! A friend of mine (also in New Jersey bought it from me when we moved to Tennessee. Now I need a "Rain Blower"...we had 10 inches of rain over the past weekend (but everyone in New Jersey got al least 20 inches of SNOW!)
