Distributor brand?

Postby grnspot » Thu Jul 12, 2018 3:02 pm

How can I be sure of the distributor brand on my 61 Lo Boy? It is a horizontal distributor with the part #359898R1! Looks like an IH number, so I'm assuming it is an IH distributor, am I correct???

Need to know so I can order new "distributor tuneup kit"!

Probably a Delco. Does it have a tag? Check TC 37 F parts list, I believe it has the different types used listed there.

I don't see a tag from the outside!

Just checked the Parts list, Group 12, page 27 & 28 lists IH and Prestolite. The Prestolite is vertical.

After doing a distributor search here, I found the part #353898R1 is an IH. Went back & checked mine again, what I thought was a "9" is a "3"!

Between reading upside down & dirt, makes it hard to read!

Thanks, Lowell

You definitely have an IH distributor. The Delco Remy parts will NOT fit your distributor.

Auto parts stores in rural areas should have the tune up parts for your distributor in stock.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Hi,
Below is a page from the 1957 LoBoy owner's manual showing the points in an IH Battery Ignition unit.

Below is the whole 1957 LoBoy owner's manual, if you don't have it. It has lots of info.

Check the ignition timing with a timing light, after replacing the points and other parts. The timing is important, so the engine will run good, and have power.

Below is a pic of an IH Battery Ignition unit. :)
