Custom Fertilizer Spreader
I acquired this Garber Seeder in a package deal a few years ago and was going to restore it until I had the tub sandblasted and it looked like swiss cheese so I took it to the scrappers. The gearbox was the only thing worth saving so I put stainless shafts in it after cleaning it up and put it on a shelf. Then I acquired this Sitrex spreader from a friend and after close inspection and a torch and sweat quickly realized the gearbox wasn't worth saving. I cut it off and put it in the scrap pile. I was going to get rid of the tub as well and thought about the Garber gearbox so I have decided to marry them together and make a custom spreader. I only have these 2 photos of the Garber, you can search on here and find a couple pictures of complete units mounted on Cubs.

Re: Custom Fertilizer Spreader
I heated the bolts trying to get the gearbox off and it was a no go. That's when I decided to scrap it. The ejector disc isn't hitting on much either.

Re: Custom Fertilizer Spreader
I cut the gearbox brackets off and took the frame and had it burnt off then wire brushed it. It wasn't as bad as I thought.

Re: Custom Fertilizer Spreader
The Garber gearbox had a funky tapered end so I cut the end of the PTO shaft off the Sitrex gearbox and drilled and reamed it and tapped 2 set screws and put on the Garber gearbox. The PTO shaft was salvageable from the Sitrex.

Re: Custom Fertilizer Spreader
This is where I am now, I took a piece of DOM tubing and used it to center the gearbox on the hopper and now have to fabricate some brackets to hold the gearbox in place and make a larger ejector disc. I may put a fast hitch prong on it, not sure, still thinking about it. If I do it would be nice to use on the 140 so it may happen.

Got the ejector disc milled out. This ones only 18” so I was able to do it without moving it.

Very nice work! Going with red paint to finish it off, or another color?

Re: Custom Fertilizer Spreader
I test fit the ejector disc and done a little more welding on the frame then took it apart to paint it. Got the frame primed and the tub sanded and primed in a few spots. Red will be on soon and I will start working on all the small parts. I decided against a fast hitch on it for now, I can always add it later.

Got the slingers on the ejector disc. Milled one side off of some square tubing.
