Radiator Gasket

Postby VinceD » Sun Jan 13, 2019 8:59 am

Good morning, I know this has probably been around before but I couldn't find anything.

When replacing the radiator gasket on a Cub, should you use any type of gasket cement or sealer?

Thanks,

Vince

Expanding the question... do you use Indian Head on most gaskets? I understand copper spray should be used on the head gasket but what about all the others?

Hi,
There is also Permatex Aviation Form A Gasket, used for automotive, and tractor repair.
It is a non hardening sealer. It's used on head bolt threads, gear case gaskets, etc.
Below is a pic, they sell it at NAPA, at least here in the west US. If you buy one, stir it well before using it. It settles in the bottom of the can sitting. :)

I like to put a thin film of Permatex Red RTV silicone on gaskets. And some places I don't even mess with a gasket I just use red rtv. I'm sure idian head is great stuff just never used it.

Same here. Just a slight smear, enough to "wet" the gasket material. Mostly so it would stick and stay in place.
