I think since it’s on top, welding it would be fine, if you find a good welder. Since you have it off it can be welded inside as well and most of the outside ground off for cosmetic reasons. I’ve seen them way worse than that welded and holding fine. I owned one, lol.

if it is broken down to where the bearing support is for the axle I would think about replacing it

Replace it. Welding cast iron is tough.

Hey, been a subscriber to your channel for a long time.

How set are you on everything being 1947? Most Cub parts are easily obtainable as long as you aren't fussy about matching casting dates.

I experienced the identical failure years ago, on a '47 cub #8525, re welded the housing and had a second failure of the weld about 15 years ago. This failure was the left drop housing and the failure occurred while plowing on each event. The weld failure was rewelded 15 years ago and performed satisfactorily since until I replaced it for a tractor update. After the last failure I did not mount the plow on that tractor.
Some additional info and conclusions (my own)
-After the last event, the transmission & final drive case had a broken piece in the area between the brake apply rod clearance openings of the drop hsg.
-I believe some of the lower attaching fasters were not tight &/or an absence of a strong tie between the drop housings, such as exist with the standard plow installation led to the failures.
-I have replaced both the main case and drop housing. I have a welded '47 drop housing, if you desire which has performed well as welded.

Nice gesture but with how many of these tractor are out there not sure why you would fix a broke part with a repaired part. Just get a good one a and move on.
