IH 1066 tractor question

Postby lovemachine » Thu Mar 18, 2021 2:32 pm

I’m not sure if this is the right forum for this, but here goes.

My father and I have always liked the old IH 1066 tractors. I have seen some for sale, and even saw where you can get the IH 2350 loader for them.

I’m curious, how good would this tractor be for plowing in the snow, while only being 2 wheel drive?

Are there any negatives to having a tractor like this? Any limitations I should be aware of?

1066? my uncles bought one new when they first came out with the black stripe model and I pushed snow out of their drive all winter with it and an IH rear 3-pt blade.---piece of cake to do. we always pulled 2 M&W 310 bushel wagons of corn hooked together to the elevator with it and no problem.
It would pull a 5 bottom plow and play with it. The 1066 is a serious tractor.----WHY would you think it has to be 4wd to move snow??????
Negatives to any IH tractor is that MOST of the ones for sale have the TA out! ---- UNLESS its been replaced by the aftermarket good one, IH had major TA problems!

Thats a big tractor for plowing snow!

Do you have other uses for it too?

Negatives would be starting that beast when it is zero degrees outside, unless your storing it in a nice heated building!

You would have not problem with snow with that over 100HP tractor....I plow mine with a 70 HP without chains with a truck plow I mounted on the 3 pt. I am looking for chains though

The first year of snowplowing for the township, I had a 9 foot Meyer snowplow mounted on the front of a 706...mighty cold but it handled like a champ. A 1066 would do just fine
