Fast hitch questions.

Postby Thackery » Wed Aug 26, 2009 12:33 am

Is a fast hitch a fast hitch or are there two styles, one for an F Cub and one for a Lo-Boy?
I saw that there are two manuals in the server (Thanks Rudi) but was unable to tell what the differences were.

Next question, what does the helper spring do?

If you find a fast hitch that is not complete how difficult is it to get the missing pieces?
Do you have to find someone else that has an incomplete fast hitch or are there other resources.

Thanks, Thackery

Yes, there re different models for the standard cub and the loboy. One will not work well on the other.

The helper spring assembly is supposed to help offset the weight of the hitch so the hydraulics are not working to raise the weight of the fast hitch and the implement. You are able to use the fast hitch without the helper spring when using the lighter implements such as a standard plow, rear blade, and platform carrier. I would not want to use my F11 two way plow, or possibly the disc without the helper spring.

You can find parts from time to time, but it seems like the part you need is always the one that is missing from the other one.

There are actually three versions. There are two versions of the Fast Hitch for the standard Cub. The early one has a lever type depth adjusting mechanism and the later one has a screw type depth adjusting mechanism. These two are interchangeable on the standard Cub but will not fit on the Lo-Boy. The Fast Hitch for the Lo-Boy has the screw type depth adjusting mechanism and will not fit on the standard Cub.

Chad is right on for the other two questions.

Funny, but I have met everyone in this thread... All fine folks!!

I will add to what has already been said that there are giant differences between a Lo Boy and Cub FH. A note on the helper spring, the tab was added on the later TC rockshaft to accommodate it. The diameter is different, so the bearings are different too. Pretty sure you can bolt it up to your TC, but not the easiest parts to find.

Drawbar is on this one for the belly mount flail mower, but you get the idea of a Lo Boy setup.

Larry:

So, does this mean that there is a possibility that Ellie will wear a Fast-Hitch in a couple weeks :?: :?: :?: :D I will be needing a spike though  :)

Thanks for everyones replys, I was looking at one in my area but the owner could not answer several questions I had.
I was pretty sure that the hitches were model spcific, and saw from the manuals that there are at least two versions.
I'll look again in the manuals but what I really want is a nice exploded diagram so that when I see the hitch I can determine what it is and what is missing.

Fortunately I have a F Cub and a Lo-Boy, but I really wanted it for the Lo-Boy.

Larry, including yourself in the group you are correct, these guys are all fine people.

Here are links to a couple pages from the parts manual. Note that the pull-bar for the LoBoy has a pronounced bend in it, much more than the bend in the FH pullbar for the Cub. Also, as was mentioned, the lever-type depth adjuster is for the Cub tractors. Also, the leveling screw is different between the Cubs and LoBoys.

These are just the pages for the Cub and LoBoy tractors, respectively, including only the main mounting pieces. You can see the whole breakdown for each by going here:

Thanks Trent, that's the stuff I was looking for, now I can see what is there and what is not.
Actually I am suprised at the number of pieces that make up a fast hitch.

Yep Doug, especially the Lo Boy has a lot of parts. Watch out for the spacers and stuff for the fenders on a Lo Boy. I have some stray parts for a Lo Boy FH but most of it I sold off. There is a forum member in KS that has/had some stray FH parts.

Are we mounting a FH at the Cubfest Rudi?? I have some experience... but I will say the one time I failed to take good pictures of a dis-assembly was the Lo Boy FH... It's more complex than it looks and the order of things is a bit tricky. But it's on! I was almost broken of my 'paint everything I touch' rule with that project.

Larry,
I have a lot of pictures of the Fast-Hitch on a LoBoy before I took it off if you need them.

Parts are tough to come by.

I ended up fabricating my own depth control for a partial fast hitch I picked up a couple years ago. There's enough material left to make another one and my offer stands to anyone that wants/needs one.

Wow, I guess I need some help. I am looking to purchase a fasthitch, the pictures I have recieved are tough to figure out.
I think it is missing a couple of major pieces. So far I have not been able to determine if it is a Lo-Boy or regular Cub fasthitch.
I tried to put the pictures in the photohost but I keep getting 0 uploads successful for just those pics. Other pics will upload ok, Hmmm?

Maybe someone would accept an e-mail of the pics I have and see what am doing wrong with the photohost or shed some light on the hitch.

Thanks, Thackery.

Comparing my pics with the pics Buzzardwing sent shed a bit more light. Thanks Buzzardwing
Looks like a Lo-Boy fasthitch but is missing at least the top mounting brackets.

Still looking for confirmation.
