Pallet breaking tool

I use pallet wood, for my shop heat, and as kindling, for the house stove. Needed a better way to "attack" the pallets, so, I fabricated a tool, copied from a catalog, from scraps of steel. I don't have electronic skills, to post photos, but here's a link, to the original:

Yes, but they are in the form of boards, not big clumsy pallets. Can be cut with a table saw, miter saw, or other more stable tool, rather than a chainsaw, or hand held circular saw. Might try my buzz saw, when I get a pile, broken down. Ed

Looks like a handy tool, better than using your head to bust up the pallets. Errrr I suppose either way you'd be using your head.

That's nice Ed, being that there are plenty scrap pallets,which equates to good seasoned oak,.........I think i want one of those. We have a major pallet producer about 3 miles up the road that has a come pick pile. This picture is beginning to develop. Thanks

We used to take pallets apart with a crowbar, for the wood, not for firewood...was that tedious.

Dave, I've taken many pallets apart, for the lumber. The front and rear walls,of my shop.are vertical sheathed,with 1/2x3 1/2 spruce, 7 feet long, salvaged from pallets. I used a double layer,overlapping the seams. That lumber was salvaged with pry bars, and hammers. Ed

For those who are thinking about pallets for firewood, do not forget about the nails. I had a friend that got a bunch of them for free when a truck turned over in front of his house, and he cut them up and burned them for firewood. When his drive way got slick form snow later he spread the ashes on his drive, and had flats all winter long. His wife was ready to kill him after she had to change the 2nd tire on the way to work. Also, if you have a stove with a grate and ash pan, they tend to hang up in it.

Ed. Can you take pictures of the back side of the tool? Doesn't look like it would be to hard to make. Or perhaps a rough sketch of the tool with dimensions.

Neighbor has a business of repairing pallets. I have the neighbor drop off junk pallets and pallet tops. I have been cutting up the pallet tops for kindling. And throwing the junk pallets in the burn pile because of the labor involved in taking them apart them.

Eugene, I have a 2 inch long scrap of 1" rod, welded to the bottom, for a fulcrum. push the prongs under a board, and push down on the handle, to pop the boards off. Ed
