Need help identifying new toy

Postby Rianna » Sat May 14, 2011 9:41 pm

This is really the wrong time and possibly the wrong forum to ask this so I apologize in advance. Mods please move this if necessary.
First thing is, I lost my Grandma early this morning who died peacefully in her sleep. She would have turned 99 on June 4th:( Please keep our family lifted in prayers. Thanks!

On a happier note, Cubbie has a new playmate:) We really don't know what we've gotten into just yet, but we're hoping to get this tractor in working order. We saved a Farmall 140...serial # 5286 J...from the scrapyard! :{_}: It's not in the best of shape but we hope to change that over time. Is there anyone that knows anything about the year this was made? Anything we need to know before we start doing anything? We're going between grinning that we have a new toy to looking at each other and asking what in the world have we done now...
Any and all help will be appreciated. Will post pics as soon as we can get him home. btw...he is a recent tornado survivor. Has a few dents in the hood due to flying debris. I want to name him Tornado but hubby is kinda looking at me funny.

I would suggest that, before you do anything, you get a set of manuals for the tractor.

Thank you all so very much. Your kindness will never be forgotton!

I posted this on another forum and wanted to share it here..........

Thank you all for the prayers. Please continue to lift us up...and I'm being selfish...please say an extra one for me around 9:15 in the morning. I will be doing something that only 4 other people know about. It's my way of one last hoorahhhh! for Mama!

I'll share it with you all:)

From the time she went into the nursing home up until the past few months, almost all of her conversations to me would include "get my purse, let's go home...I want to go home". I'd have to tell her that she couldn't go home until she was able to walk on her own and the doctor would skin my hide if I took her home before she was ready. It would break my heart to hear her asking me to take her home.
Well, she and my Papa aquired an old church bell many years ago. The rope on it broke and for years, nobody ever tried to fix it. (It's fixed as of today:)) I spoke with the Funeral Director yesterday and asked him if he'd do me one big favor (since he'll be bringing her by the house on the way to the church). He said yes. Since Mama wanted to go home one more time, he is going to call me when he's on the way. I'm going to have everyone line up around her circular driveway and then he's going to turn in her driveway instead of going on up the road. When he first turns in, I'm going to ring the bell once. He will ease on up to her sidewalk and stop. I'll ring the bell for the second time. Then he'll proceed on out to the road and stop while I ring it for the last time. I couldn't take Mama home while she was still alive, but I am making sure she gets to go home...one more time.

Thanks Bigdog!

Well, I guess I'm not thinking straight because I forgot to share some happy news!
About an hour after we came home today, our wonderful neighbor drove up pulling a trailer
with our 140 on it!! I snapped several pictures but I haven't transferred them to the computer
yet. I'll post some as soon as I can.
"He" has been officially named Mr. T. That's the closest I could get to Tornado:) Name still subject to change

Rianna:

That is one of the most beautiful things I have heard in a long time. I am glad that you were able to give "Mama" her one last homecoming and to the peal of the family church bell. Beautiful. What a wonderful thing you did not only for her but for the whole family. May the Lord give you all Peace (+)

Sorry, but I don't have a 140 manual :(
