Woods 72 hp Requirement

Postby Goraidh (Jeff) » Mon Oct 24, 2011 11:30 am

What do you guuys think the minimum hp is to run a Woods 72 Brush Bull Rotary Mower? I've a guy interested in buying mine but his tractor is a bit smaller than my MF-65.

Thanks, Jeff

Woods says 35 - 120 hp. I guess it depends on whether you are cutting grass or trying to level a young forest.

Thanks, Jim. The guy who wants to buy it only has 24 hp, and I thought that was too small.

I suspect that 24 is too little power. And the tractor may be too light in the front with the mower lifted. I run a 72" with my 35 HP tractor and it does well in most places. Occasionally I will shift to gear 1 in tough stuff.
