IAM NEW TO THE FORUM AND HAVE VIEWED SEVERAL SUBJECTS SUCH AS MAGNETO ADJUSTMENT AND REPLACING POINTS, ZENITH CARB SETTINGS, AND NOW I HAVE MY BABY RUNNING BUT, AND IT MAY BE A BIG BUT, I NOW HAVE NO ENGINE OIL PRESSURE, NO OIL FLOW, BUT DO HAVE LOTS OF NOISE FROM THE ENGINE WITH NO OIL PRESSURE.
IMPORTANT//////// I DO NOT KNOW IF I HAD OIL PRESSURE BEFORE I DID THE MAGNETO AND CARB TRICKS. THIS TRACTOR HAD NOT HAD ANY TLC IN YEARS.
I HAVE CHANGED THE OIL AND FILTER. GOT LOTS OF SLUDGE OUT. STUCK MY LITTLE FINGER IN THE DRAIN HOLE AND FELT LOTS OF SEDIMENT IN THE OIL PAN.
MY APPROACH TO THIS ISSUE IS: REMOVE THE OIL PAN! QUESTION IS ..... CAN IT BE REMOVED WHILE INSTALLED ON THE ENGINE. IF YES, THEN I WILL REMOVE IT, CLEAN THE SLUDGE ETC., CHECK THE PUMP SCREEN, AND DO ANY THING ELSE THAT IS PRUDENT.
PLEASE TAKE IT FROM HERE AND GIVE ME ALL YOU GOT.
Try priming the oil pump, remove the allen head plug next to the oil filter top on the block and take a oil can and squirt oil into the hole, fill it to its full, put plug back in it and fire it up, should fix it, make sure you have oil in the engine
Chet, You can remove the oil pan. At the back of the pan you'll need to remove the flywheel cover (kind of 1/4 moon shaped), and then 3 more pan bolts that are difficult without a small universal on a 1/4" drive. If you do, you'll probably want to replace the gasket. I'd try priming like tst said, so you can safely run the engine to get the oil hot and runny before you drain it and remove the pan. I COULDN'T FIND AN ALLEN HEAD PLUG. I REMOVED THE OIL PRESSURE GAGE AND PUT FOUR SQUIRT CANS OF OIL IN IT, TO NO AVAIL. I LOOKED AND SEARCHED FOR THE ALLEN HEAD PLUG AND JUST COULDN'T SEE IT.... PLEASE UNDERSTAND, I CAN ONLY SEE WITH ONE EYE, BUT IT IS 2O.20. WOULD THERE BE SOMETHING I AM MISSING..... LIKE MAYBE, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE BLOCK, NOT THE HEAD? THIS PROBLEM IS ON MY 1949 CUB.
Ahoy Bob. Ooooops,,,,,, I went right back to "txt" reply and missed your answer to the pan removal. I need all the advise I can get. I fooled with these cubs since 1987, but have been away from them since Katrina hit in 2005. They are some of my favorite "toys"...... probably because I can also get some work out of them
The allen head plug is on the left side of the engine right where the torque tube bolts on behind the hydrualic lines about 11:00 position. I have primed the pump by removing the oil filter and squirting oil in the small hole in the filter housing at about the 1:00 position. It may take a alittle while to get it primed but it does work that way. Good luck.

If you decide to remove the oil filter top here is where another primer hole is.
Sea salt is healthier only because it gets stuck in the holes of the shaker and you can't actually put it on your food.

Rodney, Bob and Tst, Tomorrow is another day........ I went and looked on the left side, from the "sit in the seat" view and still cannot find an allen headed plug. Monday I will try the filter trick and see if that works. I remember having this problem years past and did something at the filter. Is there a chance that the allen plug was a mod update on later serial numbers?

It is probably filled in with grime. It can be a bear to get out anyway. The hole in the oil filter housing is easy.
The allen plug is small and is right behind the hydrolick lines were they pass by the back engine flange and torque tube flange. If you have the hydrolicks.

..... Yo! Pete, Rodney, Tim, Bob in CT, and Bob in CO...... I found the allen plug and yes it was WELL hidden behind the hydraulic lines, and yes I opted to try the filter can hole........ and I have pressure! Now running SUSIE Q to get the oil hot and draining it AGAIN!
New subject..... if I may? Manuals..... where can I procure a manual such as the one which Barnyard and Bob in CT sent the excerpt? Also others which would make mine and all of your's lives a little easier..... such as electrical, hyd, trans, implements, cooling sys, and perhaps engine repair/overhaul. Of course a good illustrated parts breakdown and numbers. I have the video which I obtained in the 1990s.

Chet, there are three servers that have manuals. All the pdf's I produced are above in the header. Look for "(New) manuals" Rudi has a manual server as well. Find it over to the right in the same header. He has single page images which is real handy for putting an individual page into a post- plus there was a time when many of the members had no option but dial-up and downloading a 10 meg file was hopeless. The pdfs labeled OCR at the end are newer scans than tend to be smaller in file size, they can be keyword searched with some success and are bookmarked for easy navigation to different sections.
