Exhaust Manifold Drain Hole...plugged by screw!

Postby Dale Finch » Thu Dec 25, 2014 11:48 pm

I was cleaning up a "new" Cub exhaust manifold, and after sandblasting it, noticed the drain hole had been plugged with a screw:

Can anyone give me a reason for NOT removing it?

Thanks!!

Dale, It looks like you already did. :D I'll bet the PO thought it shouldn't be there.

Suppose to be open hole to drain out water.

Is the manifold casting broken? May just be the photographs.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I plugged mine because my valvetrain access cover was being blasted with soot over time. My exhaust has a rain cap and my cub is always stored inside.

The drain hole is unnecessary and undesirable except for tractors that get rainwater into the exhaust system. Even one instance of water accumulation in the exhaust manifold could possibly have serious consequences.

I think it will remain out, since that is the design and all my others have the hole. Thanks all!

I'm surprised you got it out. Somebody plugged mine with a screw and I'm pretty sure the only way I'll get it out is drilling.

i cleaned up my manifold and cleaned out the hole. when i put it back on and ran i did not like the exhaust noise and soot. i ended up tapping the hole and puttong a set screw in it. you may want tap the hole while it is off.

After almost three years I would guess she has it back on by now.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
