Throttle/Governor Issue

Hi,
It looks like in your pic that you have a smaller governor spring than IH used. It has to be the right spring, or the governor won't work right. It should look like the spring in my pic on page 1 of this post.
The weights in the governor are made to work with a spring that has a certain tension.
I don't know how long the spring has been there, or if the throttle worked right in the past with it there.
The holes in the governor weights and, or, pins that hold the weights on can wear, then the governor won't work right until the parts are repaired so they are not loose.

it does not have to be the carb it self but the linkage between the carb and the block is tight something could be hanging things up.look at the sketch from the manual in the link from TM to make sure what you are looking on your cub looks the same.

So I tried what you suggested Inairam. When I removed the clevis pin from the governor shaft assembly it does move when I move the throttle. I can also move the shaft leading to the carb and the engine will increase the RPMs. I did try adjusting the linkage, but it seems that the shaft assembly doesn't have the force needed to move the throttle lever on the carb. Would that indicate the carb is stuck?

Oh, and I tried adjusting the linkage according to the manual....without any results.

as Glen said replace spring and look for something sticking. with the clevis removed it should take no effort to move the shaft to change rpm.

With the throttle advanced the tension of the spring move the lever to the carb. As RPMs increase and the weights open up they push against the spring tension to lower the RPMs. The spring is very important. I have read posts from some members who make changing the spring the first thing they do with a new to them Cub. The other spring smaller spring is also important but for higher RPM stability

Hmm. Try adjusting the yoke on the final throttle linkage. I know, I know - this shouldn't be the problem BUT - I just went through this. If you've had the carb off for cleaning (and you clearly have had), for some spooky reason you have to re-set this adjustment. It's too easy not to try.
If your engine won't rev up, lengthen the governor-to-carb linkage by taking a few turns out at the turnbuckle. If that changes things, go through the procedure properly as outlined in this forum.

There is a fair amount of slack at the carb mounting studs. When reinstalling the carb, it ends up in a slightly different place.

Just as easy to adjust the linkage properly the first time as it is to guess. In any case, CTHusker says he already did it in his most recent post.

when you had the governor off was the thrust bearing in good shape..you should be able to move the rod essy by hand when governor is off...I had to heat one of mine to break it loose ...do you have the right spring??
