Time for a new project. 1956 Gravely L

Got a project that you are working on that is not a tractor? Maybe a barn to hold your tractors or just fun stuff like woodworking, glass, tools, sheds, gardens, custom implements, etc., this is the place to talk about it.

Time for a new project. 1956 Gravely L

Postby LRiddle » Sat Oct 28, 2017 12:16 am

With the winter coming I decided it's time to restore Grandpa's old Gravely. He bought it new in 56 and had a brush hog, tiller, rotary plow, and dozer blade for it for use in his huge garden and snow removal. It was passed down to my Dad when Grandpa passed and he's used it for the same. When we bought our new house Dad gave me the Gravely to plow the driveway with and maintain a garden. Now that I have my Cub the Gravely sits idle most of the time. Dad actually talked about selling it this summer :x but I said not a chance, this is in the family for good. So now it sits in my shop ready to tear down and rebuild. The engine runs strong, but there are a few oil leaks and a gas leak that need to be handled. New axle shafts, some helicoils, other miscellaneous fixes and a good sanding and painting are also planned. I don't know much about it other than how to operate it, so it should be a fun project. I'll keep this thread updated as I make progress.

Love gravelys. Gotta replace seal in my tiller attachment. If you have too, I’d sure be interested in how you do it

Do not operate it with your body and rib cage between the handles. If the front end jumps those handles become iron mike Tyson. Ouch. Seen my dad hit a seam while plowing the sidewalk. It sat him right down.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
