Fan Hub Assy.

Hello Guys! It's been quite a while since my last post.
Last year my Cub started making some noises like a bearing was going out. Long story short it's the fan hub assy. bearing that is out. Apparently proper maintenance probably would have prevented it going bad. I know now that you are supposed to keep oil in it. My local IH dealer said this assy. is on back order. I don't really want to buy an aftermarket. I will check the forum classifieds. Thanks.

take it apart, if the pulley is good internals can be replaced, good used unit is another way to go, watch out as they are different through the years, pulley sizes for the generator pulley changed

I have purchased salvage parts for my 48 Cub from JP Tractor Salvage who could probably furnish a used unit. I was satisfied with the components I had purchased. This is their info, 1347 Madison 426, Fredericktown, MO 63645, 573-783-7055.

Hi,
Below is a page from the 1965 Cub and LoBoy operator's manual telling how to oil the fan hub.
I use a clean pump oil can to pump oil into the hub.
The hub uses light motor oil.
Be careful to not lose the small rubber seal from the oil filler screw. Sometimes it is stuck on the hub.

Since you have the replacement hub off the Cub, tip it with the rear end down and drain out any old oil that may be in it. The original hubs have no oil seal at the rear. Then put in the new oil before using it.
You could also check the tightness of the bolts holding the fan on, and be sure they are tight.

Update on the repair.
I had to pause a few days because of some storm damage last week. Tractor is now up and running fine. Thanks to all of your for your help.

Hi,
The Cub looks good in your pictures.
I guess you have put the hood on. The upper radiator hose in one of your pics looks like it is not real good, and could use replacing. It looks like it might be swelled.
You can reach up under the left side of the hood, and squeeze the hose and see if it is soft. It should be firm. Move the Touch Control arms to the rear position so you can get your arm up under the hood.
Use a light to see under the hood.
The water elbow bolted to the head has to be removed to replace the hose.

If the hose needs replacing, I don't know if you want to remove the hood, or leave it for later.
The elbow should have a gasket at the head, so it probably needs a new one if you disturb it.
Be careful removing the hose, they are sometimes stuck to the upper pipe on the radiator. You may need to break the hose loose from the pipe.
The pipe is thin material, don't bend it if you need to work a screwdriver in from the upper end of the hose.
