I forgot I posted that in The Vine.

Here is a link to the alternator on Ebay:

Changed out 6 Volt coil and used NAPA IC14SB. Changed out 6 Volt battery for extra 12volt battery i had on hand. PO bad previously setup for negative ground. Bought alternator mentioned in post but have to check tracking to find where it's at. Tractor cranked and ran fine.

Looking at wiring diagramsam I correct that just the one wire that goes to Ammeter connects to the alternator it Diagram I looking at shows a gray wire from ammmeter to the VR

What about the green wire on diagram that goes from ignition switch to VR. Do I just tape up the connector or will it need to go to something?

Installed alternator - Don't think its kicking on..... 12.3 volts when not running, 12.3 volts when running at full throttle. I'm thinking I should be seeing around 13 volts or more when the tractor is running....

I attached the wire that went to the "B" terminal that was on the voltage regulator, to the new alternator.
Was able to use same belt, but I did confirm that my fan hub had the smaller pulley, so It's my understanding that it's not turning the alternator as fast.
Also put on brand new 26R 12 volt battery from Walmart.....
Is it possible since the battery is brand new that the alternator won't kick on until more of a load

Ran out of time today, but I think my next steps would be....
1. remove tape and check voltage at the terminal on the alternator while tractor is running.
2. try a grounding strap from the alternator to the tractor in case its not grounded good with all the washers, etc., on the current setup.
3. Wonder if the smaller fan hub pulley not turning fast enough and then either try different alternator or different fan hub with larger pulley.

Any suggestions.... Thanks ahead of time...

that alternator may have a higher "kick in" rpm than a cub makes, race it up to full rpm and see if it changes, should be around 14.5 volts, is this a one wire alternator? if so it should have battery voltage when you check it at the alternator

Have one of these in the mail myself for the 65...very interested in what you find amiss. I’m my case, a$40 alternator beats a genny rebuild plus regulator hands down.

Yep having smaller pulley on fan hub probably will end up with the NAPA. Napa is $58 + $16.50 core charge. Wonder if they will take the $40 alt as the core exchange?

Tom, I have the same alternator you just installed on our ‘47 with no problems. It starts charging about half throttle. It’s possible you got a bad alternator from the start. New parts are sometimes bad, I’d check to make sure it’s grounded through the housing to the tractor and go from there. I don’t think your pulley is the problem.

The drawback for me on the 10si alternator was the core charge and the bracket change. I’m $80 plus fabrication time. I’m currently in fedex dumb post hell. Over a week from nj to in...

Autozone will check the new alternator...if it’s good, you should be able to put a smaller pulley on the alternator. The Napa pic looks to be smaller than the 8162 pulley.

Thanks for the suggestions I’ll check grounding first then if needed investigate changing alternator pulley.

Decided to go with NAPA RAY 2134011SW alternator. Checking ground was good no volt change running versus not running. Turned in other alternator for core charge.

Post in how to section talks about using original bottom bracket and a top bracket from “Clint”. Can someone point me in the direction for getting the mounting bracket for this alternator please.

Thanks ahead of time.

Does someone make and sell the top mounting bracket used in the how to post installing an alternator on an original cub? I've picked up and decided to use the Napa #2134011sw alternator. Or does someone have details on the dimensions?

Below is a pic of the alternator and another with more detail of the top bracket

I picked my brackets from stiener when I did mine.
The belt I had on at that time fit a little loose, original belt was 22 in. And was too small. I also had to add a washer to top bracket to get pulley lined up perfect
