another one coming home

Postby inairam » Tue Dec 04, 2018 3:04 pm

a '49 been trying to buy for 5 years from my landlord at work is finally coming home. The engine is locked up and may be beyond help, and the right rear tire got too close to a fire but one great ag tire, great sheet metal, three nice teardrop lights sickle bar mower, swing bar. The front grill is dented but the mesh grid is not torn so it should bag out.

Has anyone seen that "drain " sticker before on the bolster?

I have a couple of Cubs I can check to see if they have that.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Great job rescuing another. Worse case scenario, and engine swap is in order. Everything else looks to be there.

Hi,
I would check the serial number, the Cub has Battery Ignition, and a voltage regulator, which came out in 1950, at serial number 115403. Someone could have changed them though.
It also has the 1950 to 1955 style serial number plate, according to TM Tractor's pics.

Someone has changed something on the left side, it has the Fast Hitch assist spring.
An early 1950's Cub had no arm on the rockshaft for the assist spring.
So someone could have welded on an arm, or it might have a 360719R1 Touch Control, which originally came with the arm.
Or someone could have changed it and put a rockshaft with arm on an older Touch Control.

I can't read the serial number clearly in the pic, looks like it might be 149805. :)

Serial number 49805 is a 1948, but it has a short ear dash.

Glen you are correct the SN is 149805 so it is a 1952 so the items other than the TC are correct. I was calling it a 49 from my recollection 5 years ago when I first saw it in the back of a storage area at work and started asking my landlord about it.

I will check the TC part number and the engine SN and casting dates. I like the patina on this one . It may be original paint. Other than the engine swap my plan for this is to keep it looking like this.
