Yes, exactly!
It's an auction, it will either go dirt cheap or sky high, both will astonish you. Only reason to show up is to see which.

I'll guess it will sell for $850 and wouldn't be a bit surprised at $1,050. (For disclosure, I wouldn't pay the difference in those two figures for it!)

Ha! I know exactly what you mean. It only takes two bidders to have an auction...

Auctions can go nuts with a bidding war plus add a shrill. The shrill is friends with the owner to pump the cost up. I learned to set a max price in my mind and don’t get caught up in the nonsense. Good luck.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Most have a 10% buyers premium, that plus sales tax in New York police state. That comes to almost 20% additional. It's just not even worth wasting your time at most auctions anymore.

Someone might be able to break even selling parts off of it, but not astonished by any stretch.

That would be a "shill." Although they can be pretty shrill, too.

I have sold equipment at auctions with no reserve. The auctioneer told me to be there and bid it to my minimum and if it sells I pay a commission, if not it was $50.00.
That's how it always worked. I really don't like auctions anymore, with buyers premium and the tricks behind the curtain, it just isn't worth it.

Congrats! You did good.
If you'd absolutely had to have one for parts it might have been different.

That is shill bidding. It is illegal in most places (including New York).

Another scam is phantom bidding, where a bid seems to come out of nowhere, you can't see the person bidding against you because the auctioneer made it up.
