In the 40s and 50s they didn't have the highly engineered oils we have today. I personally would use a multi weight oil all year long. It's a superior product from ad anved engineering. Most oils have enough zinc content but personally I would use a diesel rated /SN rated oil as well for the higher zinc content.

I'll tip the cart. I use Brad Penn 20-50 synthetic , low ash , high zinc and malibdeum sulfide. Starts good in cold and good oil pressure in the hot summer.

Well there’s a difference between using your fcub for work or show. Go by your owners manual. I been using Mobil delvac 15/40 motor oil. In all my cubs in the summertime. One cub that plows snow I put in 10/30wt motor oil.

Food for thought,
With my cub cadets I found out in the summertime the 30wt oil is the best. If I use any other weight oil they burn oil. Again in cold weather it’s 10/30.

For very cold temps I even go with 5/30 at oil.

On cold start ups that first rod bearing away from the oil prices ump is the last to get oil pressure.
Either use a block heater or oil heater too.

Go by your owners manual.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
