Motor in machine shop
The machine shop called me Friday and said the machine work is done on my motor, My questions are is there any special secrets for him to know while putting it back together. He knows what he is doing with motors but I know you guys have perfected these cub motors, I thought I had read about a seal that could be up graded for oil leak issues ect and im sure there is more little things to know Also are the parts from our sponsor just as good or better than others. I want to be sure I use quality parts as this tractor will be handed down. Again Thank You for all your help Billy

Re: Motor in machine shop
Tell the shop to be sure to put the plug in the oil gallery under the cam shaft gear. Or at least check that the plug is in place before installing the front cover.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Motor in machine shop
Tim Talleur (forum name tst) sells the upgraded rear engine seals, but that is something that I would think YOU would install rather than the machine shop.
Do make sure that when THEY/you put the front pulley back on, that they/you have replaced the front engine seal. Also, check whether you need to install a Speedi-Sleeve on the pulley, itself, if worn from the old seal. (TM Tractor carries the wear sleeve with the seal, or you can get just the seal at NAPA.)
If you removed the oil pump, the gasket for that is special...thickness is "critical" for the pump. TM carries that as well.

Re: Motor in machine shop
if you do not mind me asking what was the work done and how much did they charge?
Did you take the engine apart? Are they putting the whole engine back together or just the bottom?

When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

I'm curious too. Valve seat inserts or just resurfaced? I need to do something too, might have to just take it out of service in the summer and use the Farmall and the Mott.

Before you haul it home, I would check all those things that were suggested.
