Magneto Cub Lights
Just bought a '50 Cub that has a magneto and no headlights (haven't picked it up yet), which made me start to wonder: Can these cubs have headlights?

Re: Magneto Cub Lights
sure, just need a charging system such as a generator or alternator, magneto does not matter

Re: Magneto Cub Lights
Hi,
The electrical system consisted of a battery, starter, generator, lights, and wiring.
The magneto is separate, it makes it's own power, and is not wired into the other parts of the electrical system.
Below is the 1950 Cub owner's manual. The experts on here recommend reading it, it has much info about operation, maintenance, and lubrication. There is a table of contents on page 1.
The starting and lighting system info begins on page 32, at the bottom right side of the page.

Re: Magneto Cub Lights
It could have come without lights, and still had charging and starting system. Or a starter with no charging system added later, requiring periodically charging the battery.

Re: Magneto Cub Lights
Hi,
John, the 1950 Cub owner's manual only shows the starting and lighting system coming all together, I think.

Re: Magneto Cub Lights
Here is a little simpler diagram showing the wiring of a Farmall tractor of that approximate year that was originally equipped with lights and starter. All the Farmalls from cub up through M used the same basic wiring, just different routing of wires. Some of the components were different due to obvious requirements, but the wiring diagram was the same.

Re: Magneto Cub Lights
Or if you don't want to add a charging system, just wire up some LED headlights, plop a small deep cycle battery in place, and add a switch (and a fuse unless you like living life on the edge).

Re: Magneto Cub Lights
Thanks all. It appears that there is no electrical system other than the magneto - no battery, starter, lights, etc., so it's a hand crank start. I'm thinking an electrical system (with a starter) is a nice future project

Re: Magneto Cub Lights
Hi,
There were some Cubs made with only the magneto, and no starting and lighting system, they have said on here before.
