1974 IH Cub ignition switch

Postby Floridaboy » Fri Mar 08, 2019 8:45 pm

Finally got home to work on my 74 Cub. Bought a OEM ignition switch. Here's what I got: switch with 3 terminals on back - one marked BAT, one iGN and one marked ST. Two wires coming up from solenoid under the seat. 3 wires coming back from tractor front, one gray, one black and one green.
Can someone tell me what goes where?
NOTE: Tractor does not have alternator
Thanks, MLB

The owners manual shows the starting switch on the instrument panel and the key ignition switch shows only 2 terminals so was not sure if the manual was correct. thanks, MLB

Since you don't have an alternator I don't believe you need the wire from the switch to the alternator.

Hi,
I looked through the IH manuals, and only found the diagrams with 2 posts on the ignition switch. The switch was changed in 1972, from the 2 posts, to the 3 posts. They don't seem to have a diagram with the 3 post switch in the manuals, unless I couldn't find it. :)

Yes, but you missed my comment below the picture. It won't need the lead from the switch to excite the alternator but otherwise should be quite similar.
