you can use 1/2", problem with that is I bent many of them, that is why I used 3/4, never bent this one, I use it a lot also, as I rebuild many engines every year, I cut the notch 1st the sides on my saw, the inside used the torch then put it in my milling machine to finish it off and clean it up to size, I bet since I posted this I have pulled at least 50-75 pulleys off, still had a couple I had to heat to get them to budge
