I gave Paula’s Cub a workout today towing my pickup and I noticed an oil leak has developed in front by the crank pulley. It’s a pretty good leak too, drip, drip, drip... made me throw cardboard down while it was in the barn.
I think I know what’s happened but figured I’d post it to see if I’m right.
I noticed the oil pressure dropped a little too so I figured the level was low. Checking the level I found it wasn’t low but was now overfilled.
Ok, will the overfilled crankcase leak from the front? Is that ok in this circumstance?
This spring I changed the fluids and the oil level was proper. I also trouble shot a non working touch control unit to find it had no fluid.
It’s adding up now. I’m guessing the hydraulic fluid is leaking past the pumps o-rings into the engine and with it being thinner it’s causing the drop in pressure too. Not the worst thing to fix.
Just hoping that leak in the front will stop when the engine oil level is at proper height.
Am I on the right track here?
Mike

Re: Oil leak
you are correct but the seal is bad, and will need replacing, even overfull it should not leak

Ugh, ok.
Can I get away with dropping the pan, then the front bearing cap and coaxing the seal around without doing major disassembly?

Oh boy, ok. Well I guess I’ve got another learning experience ahead.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Oil leak
Maybe you should change your driving plans and you and Paula head to the Bash with your tractor! Sure is an easier job with help! And you have just enough time to get a replacement retainer from Tim (tst). Just let me know, though, so I make sure I have the blade with me!
