Why is the underslung manifold and elbow whitish gray on my 72 but the one on my other cub is rust color? Is it running too hot? Doesn’t use any antifreeze. Out of time? It does run very well. Nothing wrong, forget it?
It’s not painted cause it gets rusty over winter.
I have pics but can’t figure how to get them on here.

Re: Exhaust manifold
Hi,
If the manifolds and exhaust systems are both original, and have never been repainted, there could be a difference because the 1972 is newer than the 1949.
The 1949 has had more time to rust, I've seen pics of Cubs from then with really rusty and pitted manifolds. If it was parked outside in the rain before you bought it, that could make it rust more too.
The 1972, if it is yellow and white, the manifold began painted yellow, so that color when heated might have changed to a light color, I'm not sure, I don't have a yellow and white Cub.
If there is no paint on them, then there could be a difference in the iron used the make them, with that many years between when they were made.

Re: Exhaust manifold
I don’t know how old the manifold is on the 49, I bought it used from a board member. The
y and w one, you would think the paint would burn off.
