IH Cub year

Postby wesome » Mon Jun 24, 2019 11:28 am

A very confused newbie here. I'm trying to determine the age of my IH cub. Previous owner said it was the first year they were painted yellow, so I'd think 64 or 65? It was a 6V and switched to 12V. Squared front end. Yellow paint under the red. The MFG/casting date stamped on the engine is 1.5.W. According to the TM tractor parts web site, that indicates a 1973 or a 1952. Are the casting #s different for the tractors sold under the IH and Farmall brand? The Serial # plate is obscured by several layers of paint. Mineral Spirits won't touch it so the only option is grinding off the rivets and soaking it in paint remover...my concern is- would that remove the very thing I'm looking for? Are the serial #s press stamped in or ink printed on?

S/N 241056. Much newer than I thought. According to the chart, it's a 1973 (serial #s 240581 - 242745). There's a J at the end which seems to indicate a Rockford clutch...guess that was an option. Thanks again, Jim!

The Rockford clutch was the usual one installed. An Auburn clutch was the other option and they were not used much.
